Department of Physics, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX 75275 (Dated: September 4, 2002) Abstract We obtain analytic, nonperturbative, approximate solutions of Yukawa theory in the one-fermion sector using light-front quantization. The theory is regulated in the ultraviolet by the introduction of heavy Pauli–Villars scalar and fermion fields, each with negative norm. In order to obtain a directly soluble problem, fermion-pair creation and annihilation are neglected, and the number of bosonic constituents is limited to one of either type. We discuss some of the features of the wave function of the eigensolution, including its endpoint behavior and spin and orbital angular momentum content. The limit of infinite Pauli–Villars mass receives special scrutiny.

Pauli-villars Regularization and Discrete Light-cone Quantization in Yukawa Theory

As a step toward development of a method for nonperturbative solution of fourdimensional quantum field theories, we consider a single-fermion truncation of Yukawa theory in discrete light-cone quantization (DLCQ). 1 To regulate the theory we introduce Pauli-Villars (PV) bosons with indefinite metric 2 into the Fock basis. This extends earlier work on model theories by Brodsky, Hiller and McCart...

Nonperturbative Solution of Yukawa Theory and Gauge Theories∗

Recent progress in the nonperturbative solution of (3+1)-dimensional Yukawa theory and quantum electrodynamics (QED) and (1+1)-dimensional super Yang–Mills (SYM) theory will be summarized. The work on Yukawa theory has been extended to include two-boson contributions to the dressed fermion state and has inspired similar work on QED, where Feynman gauge has been found surprisingly convenient. In...

Nonperturbative Renormalization in Light - Cone Quantization ∗

Two approaches to nonperturbative renormalization are discussed for theories quantized on the light cone. One is tailored specifically to a calculation of the dressed-electron state in quantum electrodynamics, where an invariantmass cutoff is used as a regulator and a Tamm–Dancoff truncation is made to include no more than two photons. The other approach is based on Pauli– Villars regulators an...

Nonperturbative Light-front Methods *

Two methods for the nonperturbative solution of field-theoretic bound-state problems, based on light-front coordinates, are briefly reviewed. One uses Pauli–Villars regularization and the other supersymmetry. Applications to Yukawa theory and super Yang–Mills theory with fundamental matter are emphasized .

Regularization of fermion self - energy and electromagnetic vertex in Yukawa model within light - front dynamics

In light-front dynamics, the regularization of amplitudes by traditional cutoffs imposed on the transverse and longitudinal components of particle momenta corresponds to restricting the integration volume by a non-rotationally invariant domain. The result depends not only on the size of this domain (i.e., on the cutoff values), but also on its orientation determined by the position of the light...
